In 2010, Parramatta Park with Old Government House was one of the 11 Australian Convict Sites listed on the UNESCO World Heritage Register.
Each of the 11 Australian Convict Sites in the Serial World Heritage Register Listing represent a key element of the story of the forced migration of convicts. Parramatta Park as the former domain to Old Government House represented “an organisational and social centre of convict transportation from 1788–1840”.
This forced migration of convicts was the world’s first conscious attempt to build a new society on the labour of convicted prisoners.
